Living one day at a time

We have all heard the Phrase, “take it one day at a time” but did you know that Jesus was the author of this phrase for it is written, “34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:34 NIV

Many of us have taken this phrase out of contexts and have used it to live a life of reckless behavior.

We have been programmed by Satan to prematurely think pass each day, to believe that we should be concern about worldly provisions such as lodging, clothing, and food.

Taking thought for tomorrow in such a way that the ways of God are the last thing on our minds for it is written, “24“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” Matthew 6:24

The enemy has brought us to believe in the system of this world instead of the truth of God’s word. Living one day at a time does not mean that we do not have to work, it does not mean that we should worry about our next meal, it does not mean that we should store up money for it is written, “25Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” Matthew 25-30

The Word of God teaches us that life is to be lived one day at a time for Jesus said, “ 23 If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23

We are to live one day at a time and to carry the cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while doing it.

Many of us have not understood this truth; we spend most of our lives living in the future or in the past, storing up treasures on earth or carrying the weight of our past problems.

Jesus said, “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” So why are we thinking past this day? Jesus said, “32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:32-33

God knows about our needs and He will see to them but we need to change our focus from thinking about the things to focusing on the will of God in our lives for it is written, “2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2

We have spent most of our lives thinking like people who don’t know God, Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” So either we believe him or we don’t.

So while tomorrow will worry about itself, we can deal with today’s trouble with the Word of God for it is written, “8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shall make thy way prosperous, and then thou shall have good success.” Joshua 1:8

We are to live each day with this approach, The Word of God and Prayer for it is written, “ 9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen Matthew 6:9-13

God’s provisions are daily as indicated in His prayer but again we must no longer think like Satan has programmed us to think we must stay out of the past and live one day at a time for it is written, “13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Lastly remember that one day at a time also means staying out of the future worrying about tomorrow, houses, cars, money, jobs and other things for it is written, “13Go to now, ye that say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. 15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16But now ye rejoice in your boasting: all such rejoicing is evil. 17Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.”James 4:13-17

I pray that you no longer live in sin thinking that you are promised tomorrow and that you learn to live one day at a time for it is written, “1Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou know not what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs 27:1

Until next time I love you,
