Hearing from God

Many people in this world are searching for the answers to the everyday problems of life.

Some rely on the counsel of other men or women to help them get through life’s problems, to help them decide what is next in their future, but the only true way to proceed is under the guidance of the voice of God.

Many of us have heard his voice since we were little children that small still voice that says, “don’t do that” or that says, “Help that person with their groceries.”

The voice of God is always there to assist us in this wicked world and to lead us back to God through his Son Jesus the Christ.

Let us begin our study in the book of I Samuel Chapter 3

1And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 2And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; 3And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; 4That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. 5And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou called me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. 6And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou did call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. 8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou did call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. 9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shall say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant hears. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant hears. 11And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle. 12In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. 13For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knows; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. 14And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering forever.15And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision. 16Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I. 17And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee. 18And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seems him good.”

Samuel heard the voice of God calling to him and did not recognize it at first, just as many of us have not so many years, but if you are truly called by God then God will persist until you respond.

This next example is about a man who was going about life in the wrong way, truly headed for eternal damnation. God calls out to the man seeking to pull him free from the grip of this wicked world.

Acts 22:6-8
Saul who’s surname was Paul heard the voice of God on an open road to stop him from continuing in the wrong that he was doing for it is written, “6And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. 7And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutes thou me? 8And I answered, who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutes.”

The voice of God directed Paul in the right direction keeping him from Satan’s control.

Are you listening to the voice of God?

Are you living a life free from sin?

The voice of God is very instrumental in every facet of our lives, God will tell you when to take shelter, when to have children, when to avoid danger, when to pray, even when to move away from our families.

Genesis 12:1-4

Abraham was in the land of his father and mother and heard the voice of God instructing him in what his next move was for it is written, “1Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee:2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing:3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curses thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.4So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.”

Are you moving when God tells you to?
The voice of the Lord will breakdown worldly traditions, eliminates carnal ways of thinking, and opens our minds to think above this world and not to conform to it.

Acts 10:13-16
Peter heard the voice of God telling him not to judge things by there appearance for it is written, “13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. 16This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
God’s true servants can only hear his voice, if you have not heard and do not understand then it is because it is not for you to know.

John 10:24-30
Jesus said, “24then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, how long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30I and my Father are one.”

And again, “ a voice of a stranger they will not hear.”
I pray that you will hear from God and that you will live a life that is lead by his voice everyday of your life.
I pray that you will not follow after the voice of a stranger (Satan) nor conform to the ways of this world, but live a life of one who is set apart.

Until next time I love you
