The Lord Jesus Christ watched over me from the time I was born, but I was not aware of it at first. I grew up in the heart of the city of Chicago Illinois. My Father and Mother had eight sons in which I am the seventh. My mother believed in Jesus and I learned about God very young and was baptized but the world was calling me. My father believed also but was of a different denomination. I remember being very young and always desiring the things of the world. I worked very hard cutting grass, delivering newspapers, cutting the boys from the neighborhood’s hair to attain these material things. My father and mother had eight boys, so there was not much money for worldly things. Good afternoon men I am thankful for the opportunity to share with you what God has done in my life. When I was 5 years old my Mom and Dad got a divorce. It was a bitter divorce- my Mom had had enough and my Dad did not want the divorce. Be assured that my Dad was the major cause for the divorce. My Dad was a drinker and he was abusive especially with his mouth to my Mom and to all of us kids. At that time I was 5, my brother was 8, my sister was 11 and my oldest sister was 13. That day we lost our Father we lost our home our school and our friends. We left our new raised ranch home and moved into a small home in a rougher neighbor hood. We also in many ways lost our Mom. There was a time in my life when I was searching for something but I didn’t quite know what it was. For a while it would be success, then happiness, then maybe a real purpose in life. So I would try seeking material things, or I would become preoccupied with having a great social life or I would get into deep thinking about the meaning of life but nothing I did ever ended that search. I was almost 30 when I met a man who told me the best news I’ve ever heard in my life. He explained some things from the Bible to me that I had never understood or even heard about before! As far as I can remember I had problems with my Identity looking back where I always wanted to be like someone else, whether it was some drug dealer gang member from my neighborhood or a gangster rap star even some great sports star. I began to pursue the things of the world; I wanted power, possessions, and money. I thought that I could gain all these things through a life of crime but I soon realized that clearly I was not very successful at being a criminal. My name is Brian Holtz I grew up in the west suburbs of Chicago I come from a family that has always given me a lot of love and support. They did everything in their power to give me the best life possible. Growing up I was always considered the black sheep of my family. I was too often influenced by negativity and attracted to the darker side of life, even into my adult years. My testimony starts with a trail of destruction. I was raised in a setting of drugs, taught how to package them and distribute them in Chicago Illinois. I had a very understanding mother who loved me dearly and a father who loved me the only way he knew how. When I was about 25 year old my mother divorced my father because of his involvement with drugs. Not shortly after the divorce I joined a gang and began to make my living by selling drugs. My life really began to go down hill after that. I started using drugs which affected the lives of my children that were born to me by four different women. I have lived most of my life with out knowing God. Was raised Catholic so was I exposed to the word, somewhat. My parents made me go to church; after I moved out I just never went or felt the need to. My father died of cancer when I was 25. I saw the man who cared and provided for me slowly suffer, wither and die. Then I thought how could there be a God who allows this much suffering. If there was a God I was angry with that God and wanted no part of him. I saw faith religion as just businesses to collect money and build churches. All the media around me seemed to say the same thing. I would often hear of story in the media of some religious leader falling to sin or church scandal.
