Covering up sin

In today’s society Christianity is spoken of in an evil way.

Many people who wear the title of a Christian are living in sin and committing sinful acts and have harden hearts full of pride and will not repent for what they do.

Instead they wish to cover up their sins, they wish to appear righteous.

The Holy Bible says, “9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9

So what will happen if we don’t confess our sins? It is written, “13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Proverb 28:13

Sin is progressive and if we allow our sin to remain it will consume us.

A person who is angry will become angrier, a person who tells a lie will tell more lies, a person who lust after the flesh will become more sinfully lustful, a person who is prideful will become even prouder. We must confess our sins to be free from Satan’s temptations for it is written, “13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” I Corinthians 10:13

The way of escape is not to cover up your sins, but to confess them before God and repent.

In the Holy Bible there are many examples of people trying to cover up their sins for it is written, “3 David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home.” II Samuel 11:3-4

King David committed adultery and tried to cover it up by calling for the husband of the woman to come home from the war and spend time with his wife, hoping that the man would make love to his wife and come to believe that the baby was his own.

When the husband did not go to his wife David sin progressed for it is written, “14 In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. 15 In it he wrote, “Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.”  II Samuel 11:14-15

Because David did not confess his sin quickly it progressed from adultery to murder.

In today’s society we have religious leaders involved in all sorts of sinful things believing that they can some how cover them up but it is written, “17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.” Luke 8:17

Many of them will try to discredit the people they have done wrong, they will bring them before an unjust court, they will try to assassinate the character of these people, that they might be justified in their wrong doing, and all this will be done to cover up their sin.
The Bible says it would be healthier to let your wrong doing be uncovered by your own lips for it is written, “7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law (court) one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded ? 8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.” I Corinthians 6:7-8

Fess up and your brother or sister will respect you and forgive you for what you have done wrong.
None of us are perfect, we sin against one another in our hearts, in our minds, and even in the flesh but we are to repent quickly and seek forgiveness for what we have done wrong that the devil may not get the victory and cause division among the brethren for it is written, “21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?”22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22
Jesus said we should tell the truth if we have done wrong and not to cover it up. He said that we should confess our wrong doing to our brothers and sisters, to seek their forgiveness that we may all be forgiven of God for it is written, “14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15

Satan has caused people to remain in their sins, deceiving people even to conspire together and agree on covering it up.

Now hear the story of a man and wife who covered up their sin:

Acts 5:1-10

1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Brothers and sisters stop being full of pride, stop trying to deceive, and stop lying to cover up your sins for it is written, “14if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14

Let us walk in love, let us be healed!

Until next time, I Love you
