Ambassador of Christ

Ambassadors of Christ

An Ambassador speaks on the behalf of his superior and delivers only the words of that superior excluding any personal opinions of his own.

The Bible says that those of us that have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior are ambassadors of Christ Jesus for it is written, “20We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” II Corinthians 5:20-21 NIV

Many people today say that some preach messages that are to strong; they say that some are even offensive, but the same was said about Jesus for it is written, “54And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 57And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”
Matthew 13:54-58

They were offended at the strong message of Jesus and they are offended at the message of God’s true ambassadors today also. They say that the words of God’s preachers could have been said another way or maybe a little softer; they say that they are insulted by the preaching of certain topics such as homosexuality, religious denominations, and the greed of the rich.

This has become the theme for the people of this world; we walk about without understanding not knowing that the Word of God brings about convictions for it is written, “12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Hebrew 4:12-13 NIV

When Jesus spoke, people were affected in one of two ways, they either were compelled to change from what they were doing or they left from his presence angry or sadden because they were not willing to change from the worldly things that they were doing.

We find our first example of this in the book of Matthews for it is written, “16And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17And he said unto him, Why call thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shall do no murder, Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not bear false witness, 19Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. 20The young man said unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.” Matthew 19:16-22

The young man was offended because Jesus told him that all his worldly possession had no real valve. A true ambassador of Christ will follow after the example of Jesus and will deliver the very same message to the people today, and they can expect the people to respond as the young man responded to Jesus, because many people who trust in the wealth of this world will be offended at such a message.

A person who is chosen by God to be an Ambassador will not speak in judgment of others but will not shy away from speaking the true of God’s word in the company of religious leaders or any other persons for it is written, “8These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.10Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean.’”12Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?” Matthew 15:8-12

At that time many of the religious leaders; beginning with the Pharisees did not appreciate the teachings of Jesus and many religious leaders today will take great offence at the teachings of God’s ambassadors as well for it is written, “29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.” Matthew 7:29

An Ambassador of this world is subject to whom they represent just as God’s ambassadors are subject to God. A worldly ambassador is limited to the laws of this world, where as a ambassadors of God is without limits because their ambassadorship is spiritual and not earthly for it is written, “19Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”
I Corinthians 9:19-23 NIV

A True ambassador of Christ tends to have the reputation of offending many people just as Jesus did, not because of judgment, ignorance, disrespect, or hate, but because of boldly speaking the truth of God’s word in love to all that they come in contact with for Jesus also had this record for it is written, “60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirite and they are life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.”66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.” John 6:60-66

This Blog was written to encourage those of you who were called by God to be Ambassadors, to encourage you to continue to boldly teach the word of God truthfully and not to be overly concern with offending the people of this world for it is written, “2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction.” II Timothy 4:2
