The Old man and the New man

The Old man and New Man

Many of us today say that we belong to Christ but also confess that we are under grace to allow ourselves to continue to sin.

Many have while deemed themselves to be a new man in Christ as they continue to operate as the old man that was deceived by Satan.

The old man and new man cannot co-exist

If we say that we are servants of Christ Jesus then old man must decrease and the new man must increase for it is written, “17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.” II Corinthians 5:17-18

If we are new creatures then we should not resemble the old creature in anyway for it is written, “3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Romans 6:3-7

Just as light and darkness cannot dwell together neither can the old man and the new man occupy the same body, one of them will have to go for it is written, “14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth. 17Because thou say, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and know not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”
Revelations 3:14-17

You cannot claim to be a new creature in Christ and claim to be the old man also for how can you teach others to know Christ when you have not learn to know him for it is written, “21Thou therefore which teach another, teach thou not thyself? thou that preach a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 22Thou that say a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhor rest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 23Thou that make thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonors thou God? 24For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.”
Romans 2:21-24

The new man walks as a new man, he does not go around pretending to be a new man while still operating as the old man.

Paul speaks of the battle between the old man and the new man inside of him, but he concludes that the new man wins the battle and the old man is no more for it is written, “21I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man ( new man): 23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh (old man) the law of sin.” Romans 7:21-25

Many people have taken this scripture to mean that Paul continued to sin, in ignorance they have come to that conclusion.

Paul was saying that we are housed in a flesh body which is sin but we are not to let the flesh body that we live in cause us to lose our soul for it is written, “24Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beats the air: 27But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” I Corinthians 9:24-27

Those of you that wish to make excuses for the old man and wish to continue operating according to the old man, the word is clear on what will happen to you for it is written, “3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becoming saints; 4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:3-8

All these evil behaviors are of the old man and in no way do any of these things reflect that you are a new man in Christ.

To those of you that say God knows my heart, the Bible says “9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9

But the Bible also says, “26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” Ezekiel 36:26-27

Jesus says that the old man has to be evicted as the new man takes possession of your body for it is written, “21No man also sews a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up takes away from the old, and the rent is made worse. 22And no man putts new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.” Mark 2:21-22

The new and the old does not mix, you cannot be a new man and still serve the old man, for if you do you will have no salvation for it is written, “45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; 49And shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 24:45-51

We all know that there is no salvation for a hypocrite so I pray that you are truly a new man and have put away the old man that was servant to sin that when Jesus returns you will surely be saved.

Until next time I love you

One Response so far.

  1. Minister Barton Aaron Porter says:

I am happy to read a Bible study that deals with a crucial topic such as truly being changed. I struggle everyday to make my calling and having been chosen sure and with God’s Holy Spirit all things are possible. Although my walk isn’t without sin, I know I have been changed. This was a very encouraging and uplifting message. Keep up the good work.
